National Pony Express Monument Replication

About

This Is the Place Heritage Park – Salt Lake City, UT and Casper, WY

1998 and 2001

The monumental-sized replication called “Changing Horses” is located along the Pony Express National Historic Trail on the grounds of This Is the Place Heritage Park in Salt Lake City, Utah. The original was designed by the noted sculptor Avard Fairbanks in the mid-20th century but never created. Robert Shure and Skylight Studios sculpted the design in clay in collaboration with Avard Fairbanks’s sons and then had it cast in bronze and installed on site. Later a second copy was cast and placed along the Trail in Casper, Wyoming. The sculpture is an astounding 25 feet long and 22 feet high.
